Blue River is one of the communites which make up the McKenzie River Valley. The elevation of Blue River is 1,056 feet above sea level.

Historic Blue River is located approximately a one hour drive from the Eugene/Springfield area. The many recreational activities include river rafting, fishing, horseback riding, hiking, bird watching, and more. The Blue River area was once a home to a large gold mining operation. One can still sift through the mine tailings, some at the top of the ridge above, finding large quartz crystals. This is the largest community between the Willamette Valley and Bend, Oregon.

Blue River is situated 40 miles east of Springfield, Oregon, the nearest large city. Walterville is located at the midway point between the two. The average temperature in Blue River is 37 degrees in the month of January and 68 degrees in the month of July.
